It has been 3 weeks since my surgery (4 weeks since my accident) and today I started typing with both hands! It's all about the small stuff. My physical therapy is going great and I'm amazed at what I can do, but very frustrated at what I cannot. I'm amazed at how useful the elbow on my injured arm has become! The main thing I cannot do is open and close sippy cups for my kids...so I've begun a nightly routine with my husband. He opens up all of the cups from that day for me to clean and helps me fill up & close 3 cups for each child for the following day. I would say my biggest limitation is how slowly I do everything because I'm so used to being quick & efficient. As I deal with my daily frustrations thru this injury I also realize how small this injury really is...it's more of an inconvenience. It makes me more aware and sympathetic toward those out there that deal with major injuries or illnesses their bodies cannot heal from alone.
I got my stitches out last Friday and the scar is GROSS! I managed to snap a picture of my x-ray. What do you think? My 4-year old son thinks it is pretty neat! I got a plate and 10 pins in my radius...and if you look closely you can see the break on the head of the ulna (it's tiny, but it still HURTS!).
My doctor says I should expect a full recovery in 3-4 months from surgery so that puts me at early June. I'm hoping I'll be able to do some work before then because I miss making stuff for my kids and customers!!!
Have a great week!
Misty
